Navigating the ancient & primal world of birth, lactation, and postpartum can feel overwhelming in our modern, fast paced society. I'm here to help.
Baby's Nectar is a company founded and ran by me, Luka Zigic. Baby's Nectar is dedicated to supporting birthing people and their families as they navigate the various stages of welcoming their baby home.
I'm a lactation consultant, postpartum doula, birth educator & classically trained chef.
I became a lactation consultant in 2020 when I certified as a breastfeeding counsellor with the International Doula Institute, here I also took an advanced lactation course to further my learning. I have taken additional training for supporting babies & their care givers with bottle refusal. I have also had additional training in flange fitting and pumping support.
I certified as a birth educator with The International Doula Institute and furthered my education by becoming certified as an Evidence Based Birth instructor.
I am currently in training & certifying with Doula Canada to better support Winnipeg families as a Postpartum Doula.
I went to college at Red River where I graduated from the culinary arts program. I've worked in some of the best restaurants in Winnipeg which allowed me to develop my skills as a chef. I then went on to work as a private chef for my own company where I supported many families & postpartum moms by cooking them delicious, nutritious, & healing meals, right in their homes.
Let's chat about how I can support you!
As your postpartum doula I will support you with your child feeding goals, help you organize the spaces in your home, cook you delicious, restaurant quality meals to support your healing & stock your freezer & fridge (leave the shopping & meal planning to me), help you with baby wearing, support you in navigating infant/child sleep, infant care education, mental health support, and much more!
As your lactation consultant I offer prenatal consultations that are designed to explore your families unique wants & needs. We will discuss many things including how to establish & maintain your milk supply, how to get off to a good start with breastfeeding, how to incorporate bottles, pacifiers, and pumping in a way that helps you reach all your goals & saves you precious time and energy.
Once baby is here, I can meet you in home, in my office, or at the hospital. We will work on getting you latching comfortably & answering any of your questions. I also support families struggling with bottles, flange fitting, pumping/milk collection/bottle intro planning and so much more!
As your birth educator I offer a 6 week prenatal birth class developed by Evidence Based Birth. This class focuses on developing advocacy & communication skills, helps your partner understand their roll, explores various comfort measures, newborn procedures, benefits and risks of inductions, how to prevent preventable cesareans, as well as exploring benefits & risks of a variety of other procedures and interventions. We will dive into the research evidence on many popular and sometimes controversial topics, as well as address breastfeeding & postpartum. Enjoy learning with other expecting parents in this lovely community and receive mentorship along the way!
I run an inclusive practice. This means that I passionately support ALL individuals, no matter where they come from, how they look, or how they identify. You can be confident and rest assured that I am a safe space for you and your family, holding zero judgement or agenda.
I'm here to support you in your ideal birth, child feeding, and postpartum journey, whatever that looks like for your family.
I am committed to supporting all of my clients with science and evidence based information. I have a collaborative and team approach when it comes to supporting you& your family. I work with an incredible team of perinatal supporters eager to gather around you. If for some reason I am not able to help you with the issue you've reached out to me with, I will make sure that we find you the perfect support person.
